Premium New Zealand Ingredients

Made in New Zealand

Lowrey Butter Cookies begin with New Zealand grass-fed cultured butter, carefully balanced with flour, corn starch, icing sugar and flavour-specific ingredients.

The goal is not to make the longest ingredient story. It is to make every ingredient earn its place.

Lowrey Butter Cookies made in New Zealand with grass-fed cultured butter

New Zealand is central to Lowrey’s butter story.
It is not a shortcut for vague claims.

Our Ingredient Philosophy

Quality begins with knowing what each ingredient is there to do.

A butter cookie may appear simple, but its flavour and texture depend on a precise relationship between fat, flour, starch, sugar, flavour ingredients and production.

Lowrey does not treat one ingredient as a magical explanation for the entire cookie. New Zealand grass-fed cultured butter provides aroma, richness and depth. Flour provides structure. Corn starch helps create a finer, shorter crumb. Icing sugar contributes sweetness and a smooth, even texture.

Careful mixing, shaping, baking and cooling bring the ingredients together into a cookie that is delicate, very fragile and melt-in-the-mouth rather than hard or strongly crunchy.

An important distinction

“Made in New Zealand” describes where Lowrey Butter Cookies are produced. It does not mean every ingredient is grown or manufactured in New Zealand. The New Zealand origin claim and the origin of each individual ingredient should be understood separately.

Four Foundations

The foundations of a Lowrey butter cookie

01

New Zealand butter

Grass-fed cultured butter provides the dairy aroma, richness and flavour depth at the centre of the recipe.

02

Balanced structure

Flour and corn starch work together to provide support without creating a hard or overly tough bite.

03

Clear flavour

Each flavour has its own balanced recipe rather than being forced into one identical formula.

04

Careful production

The cookies are handcrafted in small batches rather than through large-scale continuous production.

Grass-Fed and Cultured

Two qualities, two different meanings

Grass-fed describes the pasture-based feeding origin behind the dairy milk.

Cultured describes the process used to develop the cream before it is churned into butter.

A butter can therefore be both grass-fed and cultured. In Lowrey Butter Cookies, the New Zealand grass-fed origin supports the dairy provenance, while culturing helps develop a deeper and more rounded butter aroma.

The Ingredient System

No ingredient works alone

Butter

Aroma, richness and finish

Butter carries much of the flavour people recognise first in a butter cookie. The Original recipe contains 42% New Zealand grass-fed cultured butter.

Flour

Enough structure to hold the cookie

Flour supports shaping and baking. The amount must be carefully balanced so the cookie holds together without becoming hard or floury.

Corn starch

A finer, shorter crumb

Corn starch does not form gluten. Used in balance with flour, it helps create the delicate structure associated with Lowrey Butter Cookies.

Icing sugar

Smooth sweetness

Fine icing sugar disperses evenly through the dough and supports a refined texture without introducing coarse sugar crystals.

Flavour ingredients

Selected for each individual recipe

Coffee, Dutch cocoa, Shizuoka matcha, freeze-dried raspberry and black sesame each require their own recipe balance. They are not simply added to an unchanged Original formula.

Clear Product Facts

What applies across the range, and what does not

Clear ingredient communication matters. A fact about Original should not quietly become a claim about every flavour.

42% applies to Original

Lowrey Original Butter Cookies contain 42% New Zealand grass-fed cultured butter.

Four ingredients apply to Original

Original uses butter, flour, corn starch and icing sugar. Other flavours contain additional flavour ingredients.

Recipes vary by flavour

Coffee, Chocolate, Matcha, Raspberry and Black Sesame each use their own butter percentage and balanced formulation.

Egg-free recipe

Lowrey Butter Cookies are made without egg and are suitable for lacto-vegetarians.

No artificial preservatives

The recipes do not rely on artificial preservatives to define the product.

Delicate by design

The cookies are deliberately very fragile and melt-in-the-mouth, rather than hard or strongly crunchy.

One Range, Individual Recipes

Why every flavour has its own balance

Different flavour ingredients absorb fat and moisture differently. They also change sweetness, aroma, colour and dough structure. That is why each Lowrey flavour is formulated individually.

Original

The clearest expression of butter, using four simple ingredients and 42% New Zealand grass-fed cultured butter.

Coffee

Developed to retain a clear coffee aroma while preserving the delicate Lowrey butter-cookie structure.

Chocolate

Dutch cocoa brings depth and bitterness, requiring a recipe balance different from Original.

Matcha

Shizuoka matcha contributes colour, tea aroma and gentle bitterness without overwhelming the butter.

Raspberry

Freeze-dried raspberry brings concentrated fruit character and natural acidity to the recipe.

Black Sesame

A generous amount of black sesame creates a toasted, nutty profile and requires its own structural balance.

Premium ingredients matter.
Honest explanation matters too.
Made With Care

Ingredients become meaningful through process

Lowrey Butter Cookies are handcrafted in small batches in New Zealand, rather than produced through large-scale continuous production.

Ingredient temperature, mixing, dough consistency, shaping, baking and cooling all affect the finished texture. Even excellent butter cannot correct a formula or process that is out of balance.

This is why the delicate Lowrey texture should be understood as the result of the complete recipe and production process, not as the work of one ingredient alone.
